Your Smub profile page has been freshly revamped to serve you better.

You can now select your favorite social networking sites and have just these sites displayed when you click the Share icon on the MyBookmarks page.

Though Smub supports many different social networking sites, you may find that you only use a few of them on a regular basis. Selecting your favorite sites for sharing cuts down on the clutter!

New & Improved Bookmarks Page

The latest release of Smub means big changes and great updates for your bookmarks page!

You’ll notice that the layout of the bookmarks page has changed slightly with this release. There’s a new column that indicates the types of content you’ve bookmarked, from videos to audio to docs and applications. There’s also a preview window for the bookmarked content.

Smub will automatically recognize the types of content you’re bookmarking and add a handy little icon when appropriate. Smub currently recognizes the following content types:

In addition to all this, Smub now has statistical reporting on all your bookmarks!

To view the stats for any bookmark you’ve created, simply select the bookmark from you bookmark list, then click on the stats icon at the bottom of the page. Click the buttons at the top of the stats display to toggle between Clicks, Operating System, Browser, Location, Sharing Locations and Referrer statistics.

Improved Keyword/Tag Management

With the latest release of Smub, we’ve improved tag management across the board, whether for smub creation, in the Smub plugin or in the tag list and tag clouds.

Now, when you’re adding tags to a smubbed link, Smub will automatically suggest some of your previous keywords/tags. Just click the appropriate tags to add them to your link.

The same goes for the keywords/tags when using the Smub plugin. Just point and click to choose your tag!

When you’re logged into your account, you’ll notice that we’ve also improved tag browsing, whether by Cloud or by List. The Cloud option displays your most frequently used tags in descending order of use. The List option displays your tags alphabetically.

Hey, Smubbers!

If you’ve created or followed a smubbed link lately, you may have noticed some changes to the look & feel of the Smub banner. Hopefully, you will like it a super bunch, but please feel free to let us know what you think.

You may also have noticed that we now use OAuth for logging into your Twitter account — just trying to simplify the smubbing process for you.

Additionally, we’ve done some bug fixing for smubbing from iPhones, particularly in regard to emailing links.

Update: Smub Toolbar Autocompletes Your Shortcuts!

Howdy, Smubbers!

Everyone at Smub has been busy working on a brand new and very exciting offering! It’s hush-hush at the moment, but we’ll be able to share with you soon!

In the meantime, we’ve got a brand new, handy update for you! If you’ve been using the Smub toolbar for Firefox and IE to access smubs, you’ll find that the latest update allows the shortcut field to automatically complete your smub, based on the first three letters you’ve typed in! This is particularly handy if you can quite recollect the shortcut you’re looking for, but have some idea of what it may be!

Permanently Remove the Smub Banner

Sorry for the radio silence, Smub fans! We’ve been hard at work on some new offerings in the realm of instant social media sharing. More news as it develops, I promise!

Today, however, I am pleased to announce that we’ve made it possible to permanently remove the Smub banner that appears when you follow a smub.

To remove the banner, simply click the the little arrow next to the Preferences tab on the Smub banner. A little window will pop up asking you whether you’d like to permanently hide the Smub banner. Check the box and click Validate; the banner will disappear and will not show up when you follow a smub in the future!

Smub-It Button on CRAFTzine & L’Equipe!

The Smub-It button is now live on two exceptional sites: L’Equipe.fr, the website of France’s most popular sports magazine; and CRAFTzine.com, website of “the first project-based magazine dedicated to the renaissance in the world of crafts.”

From now on, at the bottom of every article or post on L’Equipe or CRAFT, you’ll see our little Smub-It button. What’s the Smub-It button you ask? It’s just a little button that allows you to share the page you’re viewing with any of the social networks that Smub supports (17, so far!) with just a click. Here’s the Smub-It button now, as displayed on L’Equipe:

We are absolutely ecstatic that L’Equipe and CRAFT have chosen to include Smub for their readers’ link-sharing needs. We really hope you’ll check out both sites, as they’re absolutely brimming with news, information, tutorials and projects!

The “Smub It” Bookmarklet for iPhone

Posting, sharing and bookmarking links from your iPhone is even easier with the “smub it” bookmarklet! The “smub it” bookmarklet gives you the same easy-to-use interface that you would get by typing “smub.it/” to the left of the http, but simplifies the process by allowing you to “smub” a link with just a couple of clicks.

So, how do you get the “smub it” bookmarklet onto your iPhone? The easiest way is simply to install the bookmarklet to your desktop version of Safari, then sync your iPhone with your computer, making sure the “Sync Safari bookmarks” button is checked under the Web Browser section on the Info tab of your iPhone menu under Devices in iTunes. Phew…. that was a long sentence! How about I walk you through it, step by step?

STEP ONE: Install the “smub it” bookmarklet to your computer’s version of Safari.

* Open your computer’s version of Safari and make sure your bookmarks bar is visible. If it’s not visible (as shown below), go to your browser menu, select View, then Show Bookmarks Bar.

* Once your bookmarks bar is visible, click and drag the link below (shown in orange) onto your browser’s bookmarks bar.
Smub It bookmarklet

* Rename your bookmarklet however you like, or just leave it be as “Smub It.” Once it’s installed correctly, your bookmarks bar should look something like this:

STEP TWO: Sync your iPhone with your computer.

* Connect your iPhone to your computer as you normally would to sync it.

* Enter iTunes and select your iPhone under Devices. Your iPhone’s data should appear in the main iTunes window.

* Click on the Info tab at the top of the window, scroll down to Web Browser and make sure that “Sync Safari bookmarks” is checked.

* If “Sync Safari bookmarks” is not checked, click the box and then hit the Apply button at the bottom right of your iTunes window. The next time you sync your iPhone, the bookmarklet will be added to the Safari bookmarks bar on your iPhone.

STEP THREE: Use the “smub it” bookmarklet from your iPhone

After following the steps above, the “smub it” bookmarklet should now be on your iPhone’s version of Safari. The next time you’re browsing the web from your iPhone and want to post, share or bookmark a link, just follow these simple steps:

* From Safari, click the bookmarks icon. It’s the one that looks like the pages of a book:

* Now click Bookmarks Bar; this should appear just below your browser’s History.

* Click the “smub it” bookmarklet and post, share or bookmark from the Smub interface! Ta-da! You’re done!
